Newton, N.C. — After late week rains threatened to cancel the racing action, the skies smiled upon Hickory Motor Speedway allowing the sun to return along with the 2 nd week of NWAAS racing action at NASCAR’s Most Famous Short Track.

The Bojangles Late Models were paced by fast timer Matt Piercy in the #25, Dexter Canipe Jr. in the #5 lining up to his outside, Payton Ryan in the #23 and Ashley Huffman in the #7 would make up row 2.

At the drop of the green flag the cars of Piercy and Canipe would do battle to see who would take the point. Canipe Jr. would lead lap 1 but Piercy would quickly overtake him and put some distance on the field. Ryan in the #23 would get by Canipe and begin to inch closer to Piercy.

After a frustrating first week in the Paramount Kia “Big 10” Racing Challenge, Ryan would make his move on lap 40 and take the lead. Piercy would remain in striking range to Ryan but the Fathead Racing Ford proved to be too much as Ryan would lead the final 10 laps and take the checkered flag to pick up his first Hickory Motor Speedway Bojangles Late Model victory. Piercy would hold on for the runner-up position, Canipe Jr. would finish 3 rd , Huffman finished 4 th , and Landon Huffman in the #75 would round out the top 5 after a tough battle with #00 of Shane Lee over the closing laps.

The T-Mobile Limiteds would see a great race with the top qualifier, the #2 of Zach Bruenger, taking the victory over 2 nd place finisher, and last week’s winner, Travis Byrd in the #77. Charlie Watson in the #9 would bring home a 3 rd place finish after a tough battle for the lead with Bruenger. Outside pole sitter, Jeremy Pelfrey, in the #51 would end up with a hard fought 4 th place finish and the #7 of Dylan Ward would round out the top 5.

The Smokey’s Super Trucks would hit the track for the first time this season for their feature. The #15 of Sheflon Clay would lead the field to the green flag and face several challenges from Landon Huffman in the #15 and Tyler Dayton in the #36 but it would be Clay that would lead them to the checkered flag. Dayton in the #36 brought home his best finish at HMS with a 2nd, Huffman held on for 3 rd , Whitney Lail in the #7 came back from an early spin to finish 4 th , and the # 09 Dakota Ratcliff rounded out the top 5.

After last week’s heated action the excitement was in the air for another hard fought battle for the Street Stocks. This week the players would change but the competition would be just as tough as fast-timer Kevin Eby in the #03 would have to fend off challenges from the #3 of Mark Whitten and the #18 of Cody DeMarmels before finally visiting Victory Lane. DeMarmels would give Eby a mirror full but would have to settle for 2 nd as the laps ran out. Whitten came home 3 rd , Larry Mosher in the #2 would grab 4 th , and the #64 of Marshall Sutton would round out the top 5.

The Classic Sportsman Racing Association would once again bring their fan favorite classic hotrods to Hickory Motor Speedway. Larry Benz in the # 4 would set the pace for the field after a draw and in the feature Benz would eventually outlast the field, after an early race incident with the #2 of Don Fenn. Fenn would spin and work his way back to the front, finishing 2 nd . Rounding out the top 5 would be the #16 of Bill Webb in 3rd , Tom Fenn in the #83 getting 4th , and the #95 of Tim Gilbert in 5th .
