Rowdy Three-Car War Breaks Out at Five Flags Speedway

At the end of 100 laps at the virtual Five Flags Speedway in the Rowdy Energy Super Select Series powered by Speed51, it was three familiar foes waging war for the win.

Max Cookson took the win in the sixth round of the 10-race season, out-dueling eRattler 250 winner Devon Morgan and series points leader Alex McCollum, after a brawl that played out over the closing laps with plenty of paint traded.

Despite the physical nature of the closing laps, all parties involved could only talk about how much fun they had battling for the win.

“That was just hard racing,” Cookson said after his win on the post-race broadcast.  “I think I had to run Alex down a second after he got to me there.  It was just a war.  We’ve all raced each other on here for years.  I’ve been around those cars so many times for wins.  That’s just hard, hard racing.”

The final battle between Cookson and Morgan proved similar to the eRattler 250 finish, where Morgan took the win over Cookson after late-race contact.  This time, it was Cookson taking the win.

“I tried the bottom and it didn’t quite work,” Morgan said.  “Cookson got to me and gave me the bumper.  I knew he was upset with McCollum so I just let him go.

“I didn’t mean to give Cookson the bumper right after he got by McCollum, but I did and got the inside and ended up working by him.  He gave me that door back from the eRattler.  The same way I won that was the same way I lost today.  I did it to him.  He did it to me.  We’ll move on from that, we’re even now.”

“At the end of the day, we can come out here and put on a great show for everyone watching and have fun ourselves.”

McCollum took part in the battle after a charge through the field.  By virtue of his three prior wins, the points leader was not allowed to start any better than 21st.  McCollum took the lead 70 laps into the event, but was unable to hold on for the win.

“We were able to get from 21st to top five, it was pretty crazy.  I got to the lead there with 30 to go.  I checked out by a little bit, but I wasn’t able to run the top as good as Morgan and Cookie.  To come away with third is pretty crazy”
