This Sunday afternoon April 17, it’s the “Midwest’s Traditional First BIG Race”, with the running of the 39th Annual Spring Classic at Rockford Speedway! The Big 8 Late Model Series headlines the afternoon, with an 88 lap feature event for the “Best Weekly Warriors in the Country.” As usual, Spring Classic is a “Clash of the Champions” with names like Jeremy Miller (4x Big Series champion), Casey Johnson (2x Big 8 Series champion), Michael Bilderback (reigning Big 8 Series champion), Dale Nottestad (former Spring Classic winner) and Jake Gille (reigning Rockford Speedway champion) among those entered. As of today, 36 drivers from FIVE states are set to converge on Rockford Speedway for the Big 8 Series opener, making this the largest Late Model race at Rockford Speedway in over three years! Joining the Big 8’s best this Sunday are the Quest Industrial Mid-American Stock Car Series, kicking off their 24th season with a 50 lap feature event. The American Ethanol Super Trucks also return to Rockford Speedway Sunday, contesting Twin 25 lap feature races. Gates open at 11 AM Sunday, with the first race going green at 1 PM. Adult admission is $20, Students 12-17 are $10, Children 6-11 are $5, with kids 5 and under free! There will also be an Open Practice Session for all three Spring Classic divisions Saturday afternoon from Noon til 4 PM, with Grandstands open FREE to the public.



If you are a race fan traveling from out-of-town to this weekend’s Spring Classic at Rockford Speedway, there are several options for you as far as accommodations go. The Garden Hotel and Conference Center in South Beloit is conveniently located ten minutes north of the track at the intersection of Illinois 251 and Illinois 75. Along with nearly 160 rooms, the Garden Hotel also features an indoor pool and the Greenhouse Bar and Grill, which offers daily food specials and live entertainment every Saturday night. Holiday Inn Express located just off I39/90 at 7552 Park Place in Loves Park is also a long-time lodging partner of Rockford Speedway. Due to youth sports activities in the Rockford area this weekend, rooms may be limited at Holiday Inn Express in Loves Park, but fans are still encouraged to call them at 815-654-4100 and check for available lodging. When calling Holiday Inn Express, let them know you are coming to Rockford Speedway this weekend for Spring Classic. Overnight Parking for Campers is also permitted on Speedway grounds Saturday night in the Speedway parking lot.



Next Saturday April 23 is “Opening Day” for racing in the Stateline area, with events planned throughout the area, leading up to the 69th NASCAR Season Opener presented by Pepsi on Saturday night! The fun begins over the lunch hour, with several race teams displaying their cars at businesses throughout the area as part of “Racing Around Town!” You’ll be able to catch some of your favorite cars and drivers at various local businesses during the day next Saturday, as the competitors of Rockford Speedway overspread the area to promote the new season! (A full list of cars and locations will be released next week!) After that, it’s time for short track excitement ‘under the lights’ and the 69th NASCAR Season Opener presented by Pepsi! The Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models, Bargain Hunter Sportsman, Miller Lite American Short Trackers and Kickstart Roadrunners will be ready for action along with the Sam’s Drive-In ‘Kidney Bean Race.’ Gates open at 5 PM, with the Co-Lin Metals Fabricating Fast Dashes going green at 7:07 PM.
