Lancaster, N.Y. – The 2018 Race of Champions Asphalt Modified and Super Stock Series seasons will get the green light at Lancaster (N.Y.) National Speedway this Saturday, May 12, with the Queen City Clash. The Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series will take on the demanding ½-mile in a 75-lap dash while the Super Stock Series will battle it out for 30-laps.

Mike Leaty of Williamson, N.Y., is the defending Asphalt Modified Series champion. Last season he earned the championship without winning an event.

“We were consistent last season, but it would feel great to come out of the box and win,” offered Leaty, driver of the L2 Auto Sports Troyer. “We’ve got a new car and our goal is to repeat, but we want to do that and win. Of course that’s everyone’s goal and to start the year off strong. You have to be good from the start, that’s for sure. The competition on the Series is tough. We’ll put our best foot forward and give it all we’ve got Saturday night.”

http://speed51.com/join-today/The Series has many top performers returning to Lancaster Saturday. Tyler Rypkema of Owego, N.Y., Bryan Sherwood of Binghamton, N.Y., and George Skora, III of Eden, N.Y., all earned their first series wins in 2017. They now become contenders along with Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park, N.Y., Andy Jankowiak of Buffalo, N.Y., and Chuck Hossfeld of Ransomville, N.Y., in addition to Tommy Catalano of Ontario, N.Y., Austin Kochenash of Danielsville, Pa., and Eric Beers of Northampton, Pa., who is returning to the Series this season.

The Race of Champions Super Stock Series also kicks off Saturday with a 30-lap event. Last season Tim Gullo of Elmira, N.Y., raced his way to the championship. Gullo knows that things will be even more competitive in 2018.

“In racing, things need to go your way,” stated Gullo. “We caught breaks last year and things worked out. We had a really good year and we are very proud of being the Series champion. This season, it’s shaping up to be a very competitive year. We’ll have to have everything working for us. We’re looking forward to it and to getting the season going at Lancaster.”
