Lancaster, N.Y. –– The Ferris Mowers Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series fueled by Sunoco makes stop one of four this Saturday (May 21) at Lancaster National Speedway for the running of the Queen City Clash “75”. The half-mile will play a pivotal role in determining the outcome of the 2016 Series Championship as the only track with four dates on the Series schedule.
Chuck Hossfeld of Ransomville, N.Y., who is a veteran and past champion with the Race of Champions Series, started his career and developed his craft at Lancaster National Speedway.
“It’s a demanding place, that is very fun to drive,” explained Hossfeld. “You definitely have to manage yourself and your equipment to be successful at Lancaster and with four races there, it’s critical that we roll out of the box strong. Good finishes at Lancaster are a must if you want to have a chance at the championship.”
Bryan Sherwood of Owego, N.Y., comes to Lancaster fourth in points after a fourth place finish at Oswego. Sherwood knows that another solid performance will help build on the positive start he and his team have had to the season.
“We have been consistent and we are very happy with our first two races,” stated Sherwood. “We’ve been building a new car that we haven’t finished yet, so we’ve been running my Dad’s (Lee Sherwood) old car and it has served us very well. It handles and drives well. I know that with a little luck and patience we can have another good finish at Lancaster and keep the momentum going. I’m looking forward to Saturday, it’s going to be an exciting night.”
Pit gates open at 2:00 pm with the front gates opening at 3:30 pm. Racing begins at 5:30 pm.
