Ever since purchasing Riverhead Raceway little over a year ago new track owners Eddie & Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz have shown both forward thinking as well thinking outside the box during their freshman season as promoters. Tuesday afternoon they took things to another level when they announced they will honor area Firefighter’s, Law Enforcement, Ambulance Corps. and Military Personnel with 50% off grandstand admission on Saturday September 10th. A Firefighter’s/Police Officer Gut & Go Enduro will be part of the Whelen Engineering Night festivities with feature event racing starting at 7:00 pm.
Track ownership feels that they are surrounded by local heroes who give of themselves 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and feel giving them 50% off general admission for a night of exciting NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing is the least they could do. To receive the admission discount Saturday you must show a valid ID card from the agency you represent and the offer is good at the general admission windows at the track only. Due to NASCAR sanction regulations the offer is void for the competitors pit area. Full time and volunteer Firefighter’s will receive the discount while the Law Enforcement discount will be applied not only for Police Officers but Sheriffs, Correction and Probation officers as well.
Interest has begun to peak for the Firefighters/Police Officers Gut & Go Enduro with several local departments inquiring about specifics for the race. The North Sea FD is putting together a couple of entries while the East Islip and Centereach departments have expressed interest as well. Drivers who race in the regular Gut & Go Enduro class will also show off their talents as they will also compete September 10th.
On the NASCAR Whelen All American Series card the high powered NASCAR Modified will race a 40-lap main event and be joined by a 25-lap Late Model event. That race will honor former track starter Mike “Smokey” Boken who passed away earlier in the summer, “Smokey” was a life ling member of the Cutchogue FD. The Reichert Group IGA Food Markets will sponsor the event. Rounding out the program are the Figure Eights, Blunderbusts and Super Pro Trucks. Qualifying races will take place at 6:00 pm. Spectator gates for this very special program will open at 4:00 pm with live music in out turn three Beer Garden.
All feature event winners will take home a trophy from Whelen Engineering of Chester, Ct., the title sponsor for both the NASCAR Whelen All American Series and Modified Tour. The Whelen Engineering safety car will pace all main events as well greet the winners in victory lane.
Completing the doubleheader weekend will be the make up date for the Summer Smackdown Enduro program Sunday September 11th. The Summer Smackdown was postponed off it’s original date due to excessive heat during one the the summer heat waves that parked over Long Island. Sunday racing will start at 12:30 pm with spectator gates opening at 12 noon.
