The cars and stars of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will visit Long Island twice in 2015. Riverhead Raceway (NY) announced Thursday afternoon that the quarter-mile oval will host two dates for the third straight year.
The NWMT will visit the Long Island bullring on Saturday, June 27, and Saturday, August 29. Both races will be one-day shows that will see the series practice, qualify and race all in the same day.
Riverhead’s second race for next season has been moved up by two weeks compared to where it’s been scheduled for the last two years. The September race this year was rained out and then cancelled altogether. Pushing the event forward to weeks should help to avoid that in 2015.
“Barbara and Jim Cromarty and all of us at Riverhead Raceway are super excited to have two dates again in 2015,” said Bob Finan, Riverhead Raceway’s media coordinator and track announcer. “With the second race now moved up to August 29th we get some ‘wiggle room’ unlike last September.”
Riverhead Raceway joins Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (CT) as the two tracks to confirm NWMT dates for 2015. In addition to the two dates at Riverhead announced, Thompson announced four dates including the annual Icebreaker, Budweiser 150, World Series and an additional event in June.
More information on the 2015 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule is expected to be released closer to the series’ annual banquet in Charlotte, North Carolina.
