Nathan Byrd has been selected as Rick Ware Racing’s (RWR) 2021 Pro Late Model series development driver. The 21 year old, who got his first taste of oval tracks in 2020, is excited to take his love of racing to another platform.
“In just one day of testing and my first time in a late model, JR and the crew managed to instill a confidence in me that will carry us into the 2021 racing season. I’m grateful for their support and I’m excited to get my first taste of closed wheel racing next month that will be part of the kick off of a very busy year for both me and the entire RWR team” says Byrd. “I have faith that with this team on my side that success will come our way and we will meet our goals as a team. Just as importantly, I pray that I’ll bring honor to my faith and my God as I have the opportunity to compete across all of my racing endeavors, and I very much look forward to representing RWR throughout 2021 and into the future.”
Nathan started his racing career in karts in 2018, moving to cars in 2020 to contest the Lucas Oil Formula Car Racing Series. His first year in cars also saw him expand his schedule to include the Mel Kenyon Midget Series, Radical Focus Midget Series, and his national Midget debut in the “Night Before the 500” on The Oval at Lucas Raceway in Indianapolis. Nathan has secured two track championships in karting, scored a podium finish in the rain in the Lucas Oil Formula Car Series, and notched a third-place finish in the 2020 Radical Focus Midget Series championship standings.
“We are excited to have Nathan join the RWR family,” stated J.R. Courage. “We were able to see this young man’s talent immediately when we tested back in November, his knowledge of what the car was doing during the sessions showed a lot of promise and I truly believe that he will do well in the Carolina Pro Late Model Series in 2021.”
Nathan has been confirmed to run the following schedule:
February: Dillon Motor Speedway
March: Hickory Motor Speedway
March: Tri County Speedway
May: Florence Motor Speedway
September: Tri County Speedway
October: Hickory Motor Speedway
