After an extensive Hoosier Racing Tire test Tuesday, Gresham Motorsports Park announced there will be no change to its tire rules for the 31st-Annual World Crown 300.
“We saw excessive tire temperature build-ups in right-side tire testing both the F-45 and F-48 Hoosier Racing Tires,” stated Gresham Motorsports Park general manager John Close. “In runs of just 15 to 25 laps, we had temps in excess of 300 degrees on the right side. It didn’t matter if they were stickers or scuffs. We either blistered, or were about to blister, everything we bolted on. There’s absolutely no doubt we would have had significant issues trying to make those tires work over an extended 50-, 60- or 70-lap green-flag run like those you can have in the World Crown 300.”
The test results mean that the right-side tire of choice for the World Crown 300 will continue to be the Hoosier F-56*. Meanwhile, the F-45 will continue to be the left-side tire of record.
“Several teams expressed concern over the tires after the most recent Super Late Model race here at GMP on July 12,” Close stated. “Both we and Hoosier felt like we owed it to our competitors to hear their concerns. Hosting the test today provided an opportunity to look at other options. Based on the data, those options – the F-45 or the F-48 on the right just weren’t viable – so we’re going to stick with the F-56* on the right side.”
