Bubba Pollard set fast time in qualifying for the Orange Blossom 100. However, he’ll have some work to do to contend for the win in the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing finale.
Pollard circled New Smyrna Speedway in 17.494 seconds, the fastest qualifying lap of the week in the Super Late Model division. An eight-car invert will place him outside the fourth row for the 100-lap feature at the Florida half-mile.
With the invert, Anthony Sergi will lead the field to the green flag in the final race for the division during nine nights of racing at New Smyrna. Joining him on the front row will be another Florida native, Daytona Beach’s Daniel Dye.
Derek Griffith, who enters the race with a 14-point lead in the World Series points standings, will start seventh, to the inside of Pollard on the fourth row. His closest title contenders, Brad May and Jesse Love, will make up the third row just ahead of him.
Along with those title contenders, several Super Late Model standouts are in the Orange Blossom 100 field. Pollard arrived on Saturday as a surprise entrant for the race, while Ty Majeski will start third and Stephen Nasse will start 16th.
