Results: Hall of Famer Fastest in March Madness Qualifying

With plenty of star power on hand at Cherokee Speedway for March Madness, National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Dale McDowell set overall quick time in qualifying for the $12,000-to-win event and will lead the field to green in the second heat race on Sunday afternoon.

McDowell circled “The Place Your Mama Warned You About” in 15.717 seconds, bettering the time of 15.947 seconds posted by Michael Brown in the first group of qualifying for the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series event.  Brown will start on the pole for the first heat race as a result of that achievement.

Four heat races will set the top 16 starting spots in the 60-lap feature field for Sunday’s main event.  Casey Roberts holds the pole for the third heat race, while defending March Madness champion Jonathan Davenport will show the way to start the final heat race of the afternoon.

Those unable to transfer through heat races will go into a pair of B-Mains, adding three drivers from each race into the field.  There will also be two provisionals granted to complete the 24 car field.
