Battle Creek, Michigan — A record number of pre-entries have poured into the Motor City Racing Promotions home offices in Rochester Hills, Michigan for the 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Classic Weekend. The 2015/2016 winter racing season opener for the Midwest Indoor Racing Series and fourth season of competition for the MCRP sanctioned series will commence on Friday-Saturday, November 27-28th at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek, Michigan. As entries continue to come in, another event that is becoming a tradition within MIRS will kick off the holiday race weekend in southern Michigan.
Motor City Racing Promotions will host a Media & Registration Party on Thanksgiving night; Thursday, November 26th at the Comfort Inn of Battle Creek from 6:00-9:00p.m. Located at 2590 Capital Ave Southwest in Battle Creek, Michigan, the former Quality Inn will have the conference room open for MIRS teams that hadn’t already done so, can fill out their Entry Forms, purchase Pit Passes for the weekend and take care of the necessary paperwork while enjoying dining and camaraderie during the night with fellow MIRS competitors and officials.
Winged Sprint Car star, Max Stambaugh will once again be making the trip from Elida, Ohio to compete with the Go-Karts Senior Caged division. In the last MIRS appearance at Kellogg Arena back on January 17th, the 20-year-old rising star in the open-wheeled world went to victory lane in the Senior Caged karts. Michigan Dirt Cup Modified Tour standout, Aaron Morey will make his MIRS debut competing in both the Go-Karts 360s and Heavy Clones on Saturday night only. The West Olive, Michigan driver will take over the controls for ARCA/CRA Super Series veteran, Brian Campbell who is competing on Friday night only.
The youngest Mini Sprint entry comes in the form of 15-year-old Ryan Ball. The Angola, Indiana teenager is a former winner at Kellogg Arena in the Go-Karts Senior Caged division. Reigning Go-Karts Heavy Clones Champion, Josh McKnight will compete in the 360s division over the weekend as the 26-year-old driver from Pleasant Lake, Indiana looks to add to his four career MIRS feature wins and will have two chances to do so on both Friday and Saturday night.
Eight-year-old, Alex Sexton, the reigning Quarter Midget Junior Honda titlist will make the move up to Senior Hondas for the 2015/2016 winter racing season while older sister, 15-year-old Taylor Sexton will compete in the Quarter Midget Heavy 160 division. Another eight-year-old in Lucas Johnson will follow the younger Sexton from Junior Hondas to Senior Hondas for the upcoming campaign.
Kelsey Ivy, the daughter of Winged Sprint Car veteran and Go-Kart Open and 360s competitor, John Ivy, will make her MIRS debut competing in the Heavy Clones division. A wave of Kid Karts competitors have filed entries including a slew of pre-teens. Columbia City, Indiana youngster, Jasper Crego will become the youngest driver to compete in a MIRS event in series history. Also seven-year-old Paige Fuller and six-year-old Audra Weaver.
A trio of Go-Kart Purple Plate entries have arrived in the form of West Unity, Ohio siblings, nine-year-old Brandon Coopshaw and older sister, 11-year-old Paris Coopshaw. B. Coopshaw will also compete in the Go-Kart Junior Caged division. Eight-year-old Alex Geren, the son of Go-Kart Senior Caged competitor, A.J. Geren, will make his MIRS debut as well.
Former Outlaw Super Late Model competitor, Brad Perry, who has been racing more recently during the summer months with the Vintage Racing Organization of America (VROA) Modified Tour, has purchased the Mini Cup of former MIRS Champion, Todd Cowan. The Laingsburg, Michigan resident is originally from Chatham, Ontario/Canada will make his MIRS debut at Kellogg Arena with the hopes of becoming only the third driver ever in MIRS history to win a Mini Cups Feature.
Motor City Racing Promotions is happy to announce that the co-voices of Champion Racing Association (CRA) Powered by JEGS and of the recently completed 44th running of the Winchester 400 at the legendary high-banks of Winchester Speedway (IN), Adam Mackey and Matt Prieur will both be back behind the microphones calling the action for MIRS during the winter racing season. The 41-year-old Prieur, a 26-year veteran in motorsports who currently resides in Angola, Indiana has been with MIRS since the inaugural 2012/2013 season. Mackey, who resides in Macon, Illinois, has been calling races for the past 18 years and the 35-year-old will rejoin MIRS for the second season in a row.

The 2015/2016 winter racing season kicks off with two nights of racing starting on Friday, November 27th. After an open practice in the afternoon for all teams competing over the weekend, the 600cc Mini Sprints will headline opening night with the 30-Lap Friday Night Shootout. In addition, the Go-Karts divisions of 360’s, Heavy Clone, Open, Senior Cage, Junior Cage, Gold Plate and Purple Plate will be in action. Also, the Quarter Midget divisions of Senior Honda, Junior Honda, Heavy Honda, Senior Animal, Junior Animal, Light 160 and Heavy 160 will all be racing for an action packed night with 15 divisions of racing.
Then on Saturday, November 28th, the 600cc Mini Sprints return with the 50-lap headlining Feature of the weekend. In addition to the Mini Sprints, the Mini Cups and three Lawn Mower divisions of Super Modified, Modified and Stock classes will all join in on the action. Six Go-Karts divisions return for a second night as the 360’s highlight the Karts portion of the night going for a cool $500 to win. Heavy Clone, Senior Cage, Junior Cage, Gold and Purple Plates are back while the Kid Karts will be added to the Saturday program. All seven Quarter Midget divisions return for a second night of competition for a full 19-division lineup to complete the traditional holiday weekend of racing in Southern Michigan.
