After efforts to proceed with their season opening event scheduled for Saturday, March 14, Madera Speedway has postponed the race to a future date.
“The scheduled race event for March 14th has been postponed,” said Madera Speedway in a statement. “The future date for the Season Opener featuring the Nut Up Pro Late Model and 51FIFFTY Jr Late Model Series Race 2B Drug Free Big3 televised event will be announced as soon as it is possible.
Practice activities for Friday the 13th will proceed as scheduled with the track shut down on Saturday the 14th. The grandstands will be closed for Friday the 13th.”
Late Thursday, Madera Speedway announced they were exploring avenues to proceed with Saturday’s race in cooperation with their legal team, including the possibility of racing without spectators.
“We are working with our legal team and insurance company on possible options to operate this Saturday night as a competitor only event with the grandstands closed,” said Thursday’s statement.
However, after further evaluation, the Speedway reached the determination to postpone the event at the recommendations of local officials. On Wednesday, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that gatherings of more than 250 people should be cancelled or postponed in the state.
“We examined every angle and looked for all opportunities to operate this event but came to the conclusion it is in the best interest of our sport to follow the recommendations of the State and County.”
Madera Speedway is currently scheduled to race next on March 21.
