Racing Family Joining Bickle on His Bon Voyage

Rich Bickle will send out his illustrious racing career in style on January 22-29, 2022 with the “Bickle’s Bon Voyage” Farewell Cruise.  The cruise will also be a “family reunion” of sorts, as many figures from Bickle’s career will be aboard the Norwegian Joy during the week-long trip.

Several racers, crew members and more from Bicke’s racing career will be taking part in the trip.  One such person, Mark Lanphear, is looking forward to the cruise.

Several racers, crew members and crew chiefs from throughout Rich Bickle’s racing career will be aboard the Norwegian Joy during “Bickle’s Bon Voyage” Farewell Cruise.

Lanphear has fond memories of his time atop the pit box for Bickle, which included a win in the prestigious Snowball Derby.

“When you rolled in the race track, you thought you were the ones to beat every week,” recalled Lanphear.  “That’s just the way it was.  Looking back, Rich has a total knowledge of a race car that is just unbelievable.  He breaks down a car way before anyone else.  He tells you what he wants in a car, and you think there’s no way it’ll get around a race track, but that’s what he wants.”

However, Lanphear had gone several years without seeing Bickle before the two crossed paths during the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway this February.

“I got to run into him at New Smyrna during Speedweeks.  We were there every night, my family and I.  I was walking up the stairwell and there he was. We talked for about an hour, watched the racing.”

Now taking part in the cruise, Lanphear and many others who have worked with Bickle over the years will be able to make up for lost time during “The Biggest Short Track Party at Sea.”

I’m really looking forward to it.  I got to work with him, but I hadn’t seen him in a while.  So that will be good, too.

Other figures from Bickle’s career who are confirmed for Bickle’s Bon Voyage include crew chief Phil Hammer, as well as Midwest racers including James Swan, Mark Mackesy and Charlie Cottam.

Cruisegoers will be able to enjoy a meet and greet with Bickle, as well as a two-level go-kart race track on the ship.  The ship also boasts 18 bars and 15 restaurants.  The trip includes a drink package, along with food, shows and more.

Three different pricing options are available for Bickle’s Bon Voyage, with options to stay in an inside statesroom, on the balcony or in a club balcony suite.
