With a lot of buzz surrounding the recent announcement of the Daytona 500 date change coming in 2018, the big track wasn’t the only Florida track making a schedule announcement in the past two weeks.
Just 10 minutes down the road from the famed 2.5 mile tri-oval, New Smyrna Speedway (FL) released their 2017 schedule, including the 51st Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.
“We’re very excited with everything that we already have planned for the 2017 season at New Smyrna Speedway,” said Kim Brown, Operations Manager at New Smyrna Speedway. “By announcing our schedule for the 2017 season early, we hope that race fans from all over the country can begin making plans to visit us during the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing and throughout the season.’
The World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, which runs alongside Daytona Speedweeks and annually culminates on the eve of the 500, has a storied history of attracting the biggest and best names from many realms of Short Track Racing throughout the United States and Canada.
The 51st edition will see the return of the Super Late Models, Tour-Type Modifieds, Pro Late Models, Florida/IMCA-type Modifieds and Sportsman divisions.
Both the Super and Pro Late Models are scheduled for seven nights, including some extra distance races during the nine-night event. The Tour-Type Modifieds are on the schedule for five straight nights highlighted by a 50- lap affair on Monday, February 20 and the John Blewett III Memorial 76 on Wednesday, February 22.
Capping off the 2017 series will be the annual Richie Evans Memorial 100 for the Tour-Type Modifieds on Friday, February 24 and the 100-lap finale for the Super Late Models on Saturday, February 25.
Sprint Car racing is scheduled to return to the half-mile oval for the first time in several year’s in February on Sunday the 19 with a single night of action for the Southern Sprintcar Shootout Series. The night also includes a “to be determined” event which will be announced at a later date.
A date has yet to be announced for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race that has been held at the track during the past three seasons.
