North East, PA – Race of Champions Modified Series competitors will compete for $12,570.70-to-win when the 70th Annual Race of Champions 250 finally takes center stage on Sunday, September 27. The race is second longest running consecutively, only to the Indianapolis 500 and is “the Granddaddy” of Modified racing tradition and the lone modified race remaining that tests teams for more than 200-laps.
Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pa., has won the last five and seven of the last eight Race of Champions. Only Chuck Hossfeld of Ransomville, N.Y., disrupted Hirschman’s domination in 2014, however, several contenders have been waiting in the wings and will do their best to take on Hirschman on the Sunday, September 27.
The race will once again have live pitstops and strategy as teams tackle the challenging distance. The race will pay $1,000-to-start with several bonuses and lap monies that will be announced in the coming days.
Tickets may be purchased for the weekend and will be available at the Lake Erie Speedway ticket office or at www.lakeeriespeedway.com. In the event that there is inclement weather, the event will be postponed to 2021, due to the prior commitment to Mahoning Valley Speedway and their Race of Champions Modified Series event on Saturday, October 3, with an agreed upon and announced inclement weather date of Saturday, October 10.
