Due to circumstances beyond our control, the American Motorsports Challenge Series event scheduled for this Friday evening, June 27, at Gas City I-69 Speedway has been cancelled.

“We received word that the track operator at Gas City I-69 Speedway has decided to reduce the purse from the previously-agreed upon figure of $4,050 to $1,500,” explained Jeff Richardson, president of AMCS. “We understand that weather this spring has caused some serious problems for this promoter, but we can not ask our competitors to run for this amount, and there is not sufficient time for us to secure a sponsor to supplement the purse.”

Richardson said several attempts to contact the track operator since learning of the purse reduction have proven futile.

“We have no choice but to cancel our participation in this event,” he commented.

Richardson said AMCS and its competitors had been looking forward to the event, which called for heat races and a 25-lap feature on the facility’s dirt oval.

“This would have been the first appearance ever for our ‘Winged Warriors’ on a dirt track,” he said.

Richardson added, “Also, we are looking at the possibility of replacing this event with another on our schedule, and are currently working toward that goal.”

A similar program scheduled for Friday, August 15 at Gas City I-69 Speedway will remain on the schedule pending further discussions with the track operator.
