The Florida Pro Truck Challenge Series heads to Volusia Speedway Park (FL) Saturday night for a one-of-a-kind special 25-lap feature with $2,000 on the line. This non-points paying race will mark the first time the asphalt truck series will run on dirt, and it will be streamed live to a worldwide audience on the Speed51 Network as part of Summer Thunder TV presented by PFC Brakes.
With a variety of skilled asphalt racers taking to the dirt for their first time, series points leader Becca Monopoli comes in with a bit of a leg up on the competition.
“We raced on dirt once back in 2014 in the Joey Coulter Series,” Monopoli told Speed51. “We raced twin 25’s and I ended up winning both races. It was a shock to everybody.”
“So, as soon as it came out that we were going racing at Volusia I was like ‘yeah, I’m all for it’ and my dad’s biggest concern was that there is going to be dirt in the truck for a month based on what happened last time,” Monopoli added. “But he’s got it all set up and we’re ready to go this weekend.”
Series regular Rich Clouser shares Monopoli’s excitement as he prepares his truck for the coming weekend.
“I was excited, I was surprised, and I was kind of waiting for something like this to come up with as good as the series has taken off with Donnie Burkhaulter,” said Clouser. “You know NASCAR did it and I think it worked out really well for them and with how that plays into us with the trucks and being the truck series I was excited.”
“We’ve all been talking about it throughout the year and it’s finally coming,” added Clouser. “We’re excited. We’ve had a pretty good year so far. We’re second in points. So we’re excited. We’re off for the next three months here, so it give’s us time to go back and forth.”
With more trucks pre-registering for this special event every day, this is sure to be a special event. Those unable to make the trip to Volusia Speedway Park will be able to watch live with a Monthly or Yearly Premium Membership to the Speed51 Network.
