When you’re hot, you’re hot and Bubba Pollard has been on fire in the Pro Late Model in 2014. The Senoia, Georgia driver scored another win this past Saturday at Gresham Motorsports Park (GA) giving him eight wins in his last eight races in PLM competition.
While going undefeated would be great, that isn’t what Pollard is striving for. He’s just glad he gets to battle for wins as much as he does.
“We are real low budget and nobody really sees that,” said Pollard. “I’m really lucky to have been around the right people. And that makes a big difference in your racing career. I’m just lucky and fortunate to be able to race like we do and be able to run against these guys.”
Pollard started second and raced with the young John Hunter Nemechek much of the race before finally getting by Nemechek with 18 laps to go after a battle that lasted close to 40 laps. It was the type of racing that every driver enjoys.
“It’s fun racing like that,” said Pollard. “He’s a good kid. He’s a good racer. I’ve got a lot of respect for him. It was a lot of fun.”
Now Pollard’s attention shifts to the double-header weekend at Five Flags Speedway (FL) and Mobile International Speedway (AL) to finish off the Southern Super Series where he leads the points standings by just eight markers over defending champion Daniel Hemric.
“We’ve got to just take what we learned tonight and apply it to next week at Pensacola and Mobile,” said Pollard. “The Southern Super Series has a lot of good race car drivers and has got a lot of good competition. We’ve got to be on our game down there. We’ve just got to keep winning races.”
