Pollard Looking to Get The Win That’s Eluded Him

For more than a decade, Bubba Pollard has been recognized as one of the top Super Late Model racers in the country.  With more than 100 wins to his credit and trips to victory lane in marquee races such as the All American 400, the Canadian Short Track Nationals, the SRL Winter Showdown and CRA SpeedFest among many more, his resume is unquestionable.

Equally unquestionable is Pollard’s success at Five Flags Speedway, home of the 52nd Annual Snowball Derby presented by BJ’s Wholesale Club.  With 20 Deep South Crane Blizzard Series wins and two Allen Turner Snowflake 100 trophies to his credit, Pollard is one of the best to ever tackle the Pensacola half-mile.

Despite all of that, the holy grail still eludes Pollard after 11 starts and 13 appearances – the Tom Dawson Trophy granted to the winner of the Snowball Derby.

Will this be the year Pollard captures the one race missing on his otherwise impeccable track record? The Senoia, Georgia native is slow to make any promises.

“You never know.  It’s so much going on down here throughout the week,” Pollard told Speed51.  “We’ve had good cars down here in the past, capable of winning, it just wasn’t our day. You’ve got to put the whole package together the whole weekend.”

Pollard added plenty of trophies to his case this summer in another strong season for the Super Late Model standout.  Four of those wins came at Five Flags, with a pair of wins in both his Super Late Model and Pro Late Model.  That success gives Pollard confidence entering this year’s Derby despite the high stakes.

“It is a lot of pressure. We’ve won so many races during the summer.  We feel like we have some pressure on us.  You’ve got to treat it like a normal race.  Do the best you can and make the right decisions.”

Ultimately, it is that confidence in his race car that has him optimistic entering the 2019 Snowball Derby.

“We’ve got a good car and a good program capable of winning this race. We’ve just got to put it all together.”
