Three weeks remain until the TRD Keith Kunz Motorsports Giveback Classic presented by Rowdy Energy at Millbridge Speedway. If Wednesday night’s photo finish for the Micro Sprints at Millbridge is any indications, fans will be in for a treat on November 2-4.
Gavan Boschele and Carson Kvapil battled to the finish, taking the checkered flag side-by-side after 30 laps at the Salisbury, North Carolina facility. Boschele claimed the win, with a margin of victory of 0.018 per electronic timing and scoring at the track.
Boschele led every lap of the Non Wing Micro Sprint feature, but Kvapil did not make it easy for him. The duo battled throughout the race, with Kvapil attempting a slide job through turns one and two in the final lap.
“I was really just waiting the whole race,” Boschele told Speed51. “I was just being patient, but then I saw Carson peek his nose down there and said, shoot, I’ve got to go now. I started to get it gassing.”
Boschele worked his way back underneath Kvapil, and the two raced side-by-side to the finish with Boschele narrowly beating Kvapil to the finish line.
“I heard him behind me and I knew he was going to slide me, so I anticipated what he was going to do to slide me. I came down, hit the brakes a little bit. He went to block me and I leaned on him just a little bit to get him a loss of momentum, and just pulled by him on the last lap.”
Kvapil knew he was playing catchup going into the final laps, but made a valiant effort to take the win in the closing laps.
“I ran him down with two to go,” said Kvapil. “I knew we didn’t have much of a chance, but I was on his bumper coming to the white flag. I threw a slider on him and he just got me by 0.018 coming down the straightaway.
“It was really close. He had a fast car and he’s a really good driver.”
For both drivers, performing well now is motivation heading into the KKM Giveback Classic.
“We’ve been traveling all over to get better,” said Boschele. “The progress and process, we’ve been finishing higher in Oklahoma, Missouri, all these places we’ve been traveling to. Hopefully we can get it done at the KKM.”
“Right now, we’re just testing and tuning trying to make it faster,” said Kvapil. “We were winning two or three in a row earlier in the year, then the track changed a little bit. We’ve had to change our setups a little bit and we fell off a little bit. I think we’ve roped it back in pretty good here.”
