The second event of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East has been postponed to Sunday, March 13 at 4 p.m. CT, according to NASCAR officials. The Mobile 150 from the Mobile International Speedway in Mobile, Alabama was originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon before persistent rain forced the start time to be moved to Sunday.
NASCAR and Mobile battled rain all day Friday, which caused practice and qualifying to be rescheduled for Saturday. More rain on Saturday caused NASCAR officials to announce at 1:10 local time that the race would be run on Sunday afternoon.
Qualifying will be held on Sunday afternoon as well to set the starting lineup for the Mobile 150.
At times throughout the day on Saturday it appeared as though NASCAR might be able to get cars on track at least for practice. There were multiple times when the rain stopped and track drying efforts got underway and almost to completion. But then more rain came and washed away all progress that had been made.
That happened multiple times throughout the day before NASCAR made the decision at 3:30 p.m. CT to call off all of Saturday’s on-track activity and postponed everything to Sunday.
Harrison Burton said he wasn’t too concerned with the limited practice time that the teams will have on Sunday. He’s turned plenty of laps at Mobile before and took part in a test session here one week ago.
“They tried their best to get practice in today,” said the rookie driver who has won a Southern Super Series race here in the past. “We’ll just try to learn as much as we can in the limited practice that we’ll have tomorrow. I’m just excited to get in the race car tomorrow after waiting around a couple of days. The good thing is everyone is in the same boat. We’ll try to get as much done tomorrow as we can and I’m sure we’ll be a fast car.”
Austin Theriault has never been to Mobile before, but he still said that also isn’t too concerned with the limited practice time that will take place on Sunday.
“I don’t think that will be a problem for us tomorrow,” Theriault said. “We’ve got a good group of guys. This looks like a pretty good track. I’m pretty much a foreigner to these parts since I’m a northern guy, but this place seems pretty cool. So hopefully we’ll get a good practice tomorrow and tune on it.”
Practice will begin at noon CT on Sunday and run until 12:45 p.m. CT. No team is allowed to fire up an engine before noon out of courtesy to the local churches. Qualifying will follow at 1 p.m. CT, and the race will go green at 4 p.m. CT.
