Brighton, Colorado driver Preston Peltier will make his first Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series presented by Lucas Oil start on March 23 at Irwindale Speedway (CA). The Southern California native has participated in all five Winter Showdown's at Kern County Raceway (CA) and scored a best finish of third in this year's event. Peltier, a two-time winner of the Summer Showdown at Evergreen Speedway (WA), will make the trip home and make his first SRL championship start after watching the Southwest Tour stars growing up.
"I grew up watching Ron Hornaday Jr. and Rick Carelli Racing racing in the Southwest Tour, so it is cool to return to my roots and have a little fun," Peltier said. "It's a good warmup for the season and a good way to see how we stack up against the Tour regulars."
Peltier Racing is no stranger to success after winning the PASS South and PASS National Super Late Model titles in 2010. He also counts five wins in the prestigious Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC), as well as victories in the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park and the Challenge Cup at Colorado National Speedway to name a few.
This will be the first time Peltier has ever competed at Irwindale Speedway. The half-mile oval will be new to him, but he sees some similarities with another track he has competed on.
"I've never raced or watched a race there before, so I don't really have any opinion on it," Peltier admitted. "I did watch some video of it and it reminds me of a big Tucson (Speedway). I've only been there once but loved the place."
The former fabricator at Hendrick Motorsports will bring the same car that he drove to a third-place finish at the Winter Showdown. The car is the "house car" for Rowdy Manufacturing, which is a combination of Hamke Race Cars & Parts Inc and Kyle Busch's manufacturing business. Peltier was very happy with the car at Kern and feels it will see victory lane multiple times this year.
"I was very impressed with this new Rowdy Manufacturing Chassis,' Peltier began. "I've only ever driven Hamke cars and I have no complaints there, but the new car is just the next level for us. It's been a great addition for Generator Source Racing, and we look forward to winning some races and having a great relationship with Rowdy Manufacturing in the future."
Preston will bring a teammate with him to Irwindale in the form of 2018 Colorado National Speedway Super Late Model winner Eddie Vecchiarelli. Vecchairelli competed in five Super Late Model events at the speedway, scoring the win, four top-fives and five top-10 finishes. He also competed in two Grand American Modified events, winning both features. In those two features, he also beat his father and car owner Ed.
Peltier is happy to have a teammate at the event and is thankful to his team owner Ed Vecchiarelli and his sponsors for the opportunity.
"I've got to thank Ed and Eddie Vecchiarelli for putting me in this equipment," Peltier said. "I also want to thank our fine sponsors; Generator Source, Performance Friction Brakes, Tilton Engineering, Swift Springs, Ultra Cool Brake Fans, Bassett Racing Wheels and Buzze Rear Ends."
