2017 American-Canadian Tour champion Scott Payea and car owner Rick Paya will be dusting off the RPM Motorsports No. 37 Super Late Model for this Sunday’s Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North 150 at Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl (VT).
Payea’s first and only previous PASS start came two years ago when he finished 10th at Thunder Road.
“We’re going to bring out our Super Late Model and attempt the PASS race at Thunder Road to support the track and get some seat time in the car,” Payea told Speed51.com.
Payea – who has four career ACT wins at the Barre, Vermont track – will look to defend his home track against the PASS stalwarts from both Maine and New Hampshire.
“We ran the Super Late Model two years ago at Thunder Road in the PASS race and we haven’t run it since. I’m really looking forward to it and it will be good to do it at a track that we know very well.”
The Milton, VT driver has made his name known while racing ACT Late Models throughout the Northeast, culminating with an ACT Tour championship in 2017. Payea hopes to give as good a performance in the team’s Super Late Model ride on Sunday.
“It’s a whole different feel in a Super Late Model,” he admitted. “I’m looking forward to doing something different and it would be great if we could get some results close to what we have with the ACT car.”
But Payea is keeping his goals realistic for the time being, looking to be competitive come race time on Sunday afternoon, while getting himself into a favorable position in the closing laps.
“It would be amazing to be able to pull (a win) off. But we’re not setting our sights too high, we just want to run competitively and put on a good show for all the fans.”
As for right now, the plan for the RPM camp is to run just the two PASS races at Thunder Road, while concentrating on getting a second straight ACT Tour title. But Payea admitted that they are not ruling anything out.
“I think for right now we’re going to shoot for the two Thunder Road races, that’s the only plans right now. But we’ll see how the season progresses, we got a lot of racing still to do.”
Speed51.com will have coverage of both the PASS Super Late Models and Thunder Road Late Models this Sunday, May 27 at Thunder Road in Barre, VT.
