Oxford 250 Polesitter Carries Northeast Flag in Rowdy Race

Ryan Kuhn carried the banner for the Northeast as the Rowdy Energy Super Select Series powered by Speed51 went to virtual Oxford Plains Speedway.  Kuhn, the 2019 Oxford 250 polesitter, passed eRattler 250 winner Devon Morgan with 24 laps to go and pulled away to take the victory in the race.

Morgan had dominated the 150-lap event after working his way up from the 11th starting spot.  However, Kuhn closed in on Morgan over the second half of the event, before pulling to the inside of Morgan.

The two battled side-by-side for several laps around the 3/8-mile Oxford Plains bullring, before Kuhn successfully wrestled the lead away from Morgan and cruised to victory.

“Honestly, I was very surprised that the outside was working as well as it was in the middle of the run there,” Kuhn said.  “The bottom came back in and I found in.  I ran down Morgan, saved that right-rear, got to his bumper, clean racing.”

It was a thrilling conclusion to a stunningly clean race, with no caution flags to slow the pace.

“Morgan and I have had some good races together.  He’s one of the best racers on the sim, in my opinion.  What an unbelievable race, green-to-checkered.”

Ultimately, it was a win scored against some of the best sim racers on iRacing, many of which also race in the real world.

“I couldn’t believe that I caught Devon Morgan, because he’s one of the best in the sim, I was very surprised.  It feels amazing because I know how stout this group is.  They’re stout in the real-world, that’s what makes it really cool.”

Unfortunately, Morgan suffered a loss of connection to the server just shy of the finish, losing second place in the process and ultimately finishing 19th.  Max Cookson inherited the second finishing position, and admitted to struggling on knowing when to force the issue over the caution-free race.

“I think the biggest thing tonight was knowing when to ride and knowing when to go.  Ryan and Morgan worked around those few cars that were a little bit off and I got stuck behind them a little bit and rode.”

Ryan Doucette finished third to complete a podium of Northeast natives.  It was a hard-earned finish for the Massachusetts native.

“I’ll tell you, I had to work my tail off to get third,” said Doucette.  “I’m sweating like crazy like now, believe it or not.  I was sawing on the wheel every lap with as loose as the car was.”

Layne Riggs finished fourth, with Parker Retzlaff rounding out the top five.

Prior to the feature race, an individual posing as Derek Kraus fraudulently gained access to the virtual broadcast booth and made inappropriate comments regarding the series.  Series officials are investigating the matter further and will take further action at the appropriate time.

The Rowdy Energy Super Select Series powered by Speed51 will next visit World Wide Technology Raceway. Fans can see the series schedule, as well as past results, race replays and more at speed51.com/rowdyseries.
