MIDDLETOWN, NY – The questions have been answered surrounding the 2015 season at Orange County Fair Speedway.

Michael Gurda IV, the promoter of the historic five-eighths-mile fairgrounds oval, has confirmed that OCFS will operate as an independent facility for the ’15 campaign, effectively ending the speedway’s DIRTcar NorthEast sanction. Orange County first hosted auto racing in 1919 and the ’15 campaign will mark its 66th year of uninterrupted stock car racing.

“At this time, we felt it was in the best interest of Orange County Fair Speedway, its drivers and fans, to operate fully on our own for 2015,” Gurda stated. “We’re working on a schedule of events that should be enticing for weekly racing and our traditional special events.”

The independent status will not prompt rule changes in any of the weekly classes.

The ’15 Orange County Fair Speedway season gets underway on Tuesday, April 7 with the second edition of the ‘Hard Clay Open’ event co-promoted by BD Motorsports Media LLC. The event will kick off the point chase for the Short Track Super Series Fueled By Hi-Tek $15,000 championship with a 50-lap Modified event paying $5,000-plus to win, $1,000 for 10th and $500 to take the green. Crate 602 Sportsman offering $1,000 to win and $100 to start will complete the doubleheader. Weather dates are planned for April 8 and 9.

Andy Bachetti (Modified) and Brian Krummel (Crate 602 Sportsman) are the defending ‘Hard Clay Open’ winners. Bachetti, of Sheffield, Mass., went on to win the inaugural $10,014 Short Track Super Series championship.

A full Short Track Super Series Fueled By Hi-Tek schedule will be released in the near future.

The ‘Hard Clay Open’ will be preceded by an open practice session on Saturday, April 4 from noon-5 p.m.

The first Saturday night event of the season is set for April 11 with small-block Modifieds, Sportsman, Rookie Sportsman and Street Stocks (Crane Golf Street Stock Challenge Event No. 1) on the card. The opening points-paying race for big-block Modifieds is planned for Saturday, April 18.

Weekly racing will continue through September 12 with the exception of May 23 (Memorial Day) and July 4 – the track will be silent for the holiday weekends. The speedway’s ‘Eve of Destruction’ will take place on September 19.

Orange County Fair Speedway’s “trademark event” take place on October 23-25 with the 54th running of the Eastern States Weekend, the longest consecutively run event for dirt-track Modified stock cars in the country. The ’15 edition of Eastern States Weekend will, of course, be highlighted by the $20,000-to-win Eastern States 200 for big-block Modifieds on Sunday.
