(Thornburg, VA) Based on the forecast below, which was from the National Weather Service at 10am Thursday morning, April 7; Dominion Raceway officials have cancelled the Saturday, April 9th opening event. In addition, the scheduled Friday night practice has been cancelled.
A Sunday, April 10th open practice has been added to the schedule. Registration will begin at 10am and cars will be able to practice from noonuntil 4pm.
Opening festivities will now occur on Saturday, April 16th with a green flag at 7pm. Opening night will be part of the “Budweiser Summer Nights Race Series”. Tickets purchased for the April 9th event will be honored for the event on the 16th.
“This was the right call for all of our stakeholders. Our racers come from throughout the region and our fans deserve a great opening night as do our marketing and advertising partners. The forecast for Saturday does not work for any of us.” Those comments from General Manager Edwin Pardue. He went on to say, “…we keep waiting for this forecast to improve and it keeps getting worse.”
