The Northwest Super Late Model Series (NWSLMS) will be heading back to Evergreen Speedway to compete on the big 5/8-mile paved oval on June 26th for the first time since 2015. The “Mark Galloway Twin 75 Shootouts” will feature both the NWSLMS Super Late Models and the Pro late Models, in an event paying $5,000-to-win each feature. A special bonus of $5,000 is available to any driver able to pull into Victory Lane in both events, making it an even more electrifying event.
“We are excited to have the NWSLMS compete at Evergreen in 2021”, Evergreen Speedway’s CEO Doug Hobbs explained. “Dan (Garber) and I have been talking for quite some time trying to work out dates and logistics. The “Galloway Twin Shootouts” is going to be a great event for the drivers and fans!”
NWSLMS director Dan Garber was also exited for the opportunity to return to possibly the most well-known racing facility in the Northwest portion of the country.
“This is a great opportunity for our series to put on a good show for the Evergreen Speedway fans”, Garber stated. “Our drivers will be excited to have a tune-up race before the (Summer) Showdown.”
As mentioned, the event will serve as a tune-up for the “Summer Showdown”, the biggest event on the track’s schedule each year. Therefore, Hobbs is looking to make the “Galloway” event a big leadup to the prestigious event.
“Since there are only two “BIG TRACK” races this season, we wanted to make “The Galloway” and “Summer Showdown” both marquee events”, Hobbs stated. “Adding the Super Late Model class to “The Galloway” gives teams a prelude to the “Summer Showdown” a month later, for what will be announced shortly, as one of the biggest purses in the US.”
Hobbs is also anticipating an entertaining weekend for the NWSLMS Super Late Models and the Pro Late Models. He feels the format of the event will lead to hard and entertaining racing for both fans and teams alike.
“Having twin 75-lap shootout races (Pro Lates and Super Lates) will create more of a sprint versus a marathon race”, Hobbs described. “The excitement from the first lap to the last lap will keep everyone focused on every lap. Since fuel and tire management won’t be as much of an issue, it should create lots of door-to-door racing throughout the race. We will run the Pro Lates earlier in the night, for any drivers wanting to compete in both classes. This will be a very fun weekend. Friday night will allow all of the classes to practice, with the Pro Lates and Super Lates also qualifying for Saturdays “Mark Galloway Twin 75 Shootouts.”
Hobbs continued, “This will be one of the BIGGEST race days of the year, with support classes featuring the Evergreen Legends, NASCAR Street Stocks and Mini Stocks and the touring Vintage Modifieds. Fans will want to get there early for this special event, raising funds for the Mark Galloway Foundation.”
The event will mark the sixth time the series has competed at Evergreen Speedway. Kelly Mann won the “Mark Galloway 150” back in 2015, the only time the “Tour” competed in this special event on the 5/8th mile oval. Parker Stephens won in the other 2015 series event, this one on the 3/8th mile. In 2018 Travis Bennett and Doni Wanat scored victories, where Wanat scored the NASCAR State of Washington Advanced Auto Parts Weekly Series Championship. Michael Holden was able to secure the 2019 NWSLMS victory, for his only series win. The series has averaged nearly 26 car per event, in those previous five races, proving that Evergreen Speedway is one of the most popular stops for the drivers on the “Tour”.
The “Mark Galloway Twin 75’s” will round out the 10-race schedule for the Northwest Super Late Model Series in 2021. It is the most events on the docket since the inaugural season for the series, which sported 11 events in 2014.
