For the 27th time, the Northeast Motorsports Expo will kick off the new year and a new race season for drivers, fans and race teams in the Northeast region this upcoming weekend. The show, which takes place at the Augusta Civic Center in Augusta, Maine, will open its doors for the first time on Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET. Doors will be open until 9:30 p.m. that night, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. will be on hand at the show on Friday evening to deliver pictures and updates on the AP Racing Brakes Twitter feed, as well as talk to local drivers, tracks, series and vendors about the upcoming racing season.


The yearly show, organized by Mainely Motorsports TV’s Steve Perry, gives fans their first opportunity to see some of the cars and stars that will be competing at local short tracks throughout the season.


Drivers such as “The Maine Racing Legend” Mike Rowe, six-time PASS North champion Johnny Clark and defending PASS North champion DJ Shaw will all be in attendance at times during the weekend talking to fans and signing autographs.


On Friday night, the highly-anticipated Heluva Good Pit Crew Challenge will take place on the show floor with teams, fans and drivers competing for $750 top prize. Two-time defending Oxford 250 winner Travis Benjamin’s crew will look to make it three-in-a-row this weekend after capturing the crown in 2013 and 2014.


Multiple seminars will also be hosted throughout the weekend including a spotter seminar hosted by local Racing Electronics dealer Shawn Waddell of Waddell Communications on Friday night at 8 p.m. Debby Pastrana, the mother of X Games gold medalist Travis Pastrana, will also host a “10 Ways to Be a More Successful Athlete” seminar at 4 p.m. on Saturday.


The Maine Vintage Race Car Association will host a silent auction throughout the weekend beginning on Friday evening. For the second straight year, the association also plans to host a live auction for Maine motorsports memorabilia on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.


Sunday afternoon will be one of the most anticipated times of the weekend, as the top-16 teams compete in the final round of the Heluva Good Pit Crew Challenge.


Throughout the weekend, fans will be able to check out over 55 displays from local race tracks, touring series and vendors. Local tracks such as Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, Oxford Plains Speedway and Lee USA Speedway will all be in attendance, as well as premier short track touring series’ such as PASS, ACT and the Granite State Pro Stock Series.


Tickets to get into the show are available at the door each night for $9 (adults), $7.50 (seniors) and $5.00 (children ages 6-12). Children age 5 and under get in the door for free. A three-day pass is also available for the discounted price of $20.
