The North-South Shootout’s triumphant return to the tricky-but-fast Concord Speedway in Concord, North Carolina is finally just a few days away.
In 2011 the race was moved from its only home of Concord to Caraway Speedway in Sophia, North Carolina. The race was held there from 2011 through 2014.
This past spring, Caraway Speedway’s promoters, Darren and Renee Hackett, announced that they were moving the race back to Concord Speedway to bring back some of the fanfare surrounding the Shootout that many felt had been missing for a little while.
Since then, entries have been pouring in. Some of Modified racing’s current great drivers are headed to Concord to put on a show for 125-laps in the $10,000-to-win Dunleavy’s Truck and Trailer Repair Tour-type Modified division. Drivers like three-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby, four-time NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion George Brunnhoelzl III, NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion and former North-South Shootout winner Burt Myers, and five-time North-South Shootout winner Matt Hirschman will all be there, just to name a few.
There will also be a 125-lap Super Late Model race for the PASS South division featuring drivers such as Zane Smith, Trevor Sanborn, Tate Fogelman and Jared Irvan. With just two races remaining on the schedule, the points battle is a tight one. Fogelman leads Smith by just 14 points and the top four drivers are all within 16 markers of the lead heading to the challenging tri-oval of Concord.
And just to add to all of the awesome things surrounding this event, Speed51.com recently announced that Speed51 TV will be doing a live pay-per-view broadcast of both days of racing action from the fast, triangular half-mile race track in the heart of racing country. This way if you can’t make it to the race track in person you can still watch the North-South Shootout’s return to Concord Speedway.
Entry forms for the $10,000-to-win John Blewett III Dunleavy’s Truck and Trailer Repair Tour-Type Modified North-South Shootout event, as well as the $5,000-to-win Mr. Rooter SK Modified event, are currently available by visiting www.northsouthshootout.net.
Practice day kicks off the 13th Annual North-South Shootout on Thursday, November 5. Additional practice and qualifying will take place on Friday, November 6, with the North-South Shootout main events taking the green flag on Saturday, November 7. The features will consist of a 125-lap race for the Pro All-Stars Series South Super Late Models, a 60-lap event for the Southeast Trucks, 75-laps for the Limited Late Models, the Mr. Rooter 50 for the SK Modifieds and the John Blewett III Memorial 125 for the Dunleavy’s Truck and Trailer Repair Tour-Type Modifieds.
