Daytona Beach, Florida (January 24, 2020) – Racing Promotion Monthly (RPM) Newsletter and Workshop Auto-Racing Promoter of the Year (ARPY) Regional Nominees, Regional Ties and the National Nominees have been announced as the traditional first round mail-in ballots have been tabulated. RPM readers continued their nearly five decade tradition of selecting a stellar slate of candidates for the 44th Auto Racing Promoter of the Year Award. Nominees range from veteran promoters to first-time nominees with three regional ties. The ties will be broken utilizing the second round of balloting. The procedure from this point will change to become web driven. A gmail or google account will be required to vote using the included link to the calculating ballot. Only one vote per account will count toward the official voting calculation.
This second round of voting will be used to determine all regional winners, where the regions are tied and the 44th Auto Racing Promoter of the Year. Only online ballots filed through the Google balloting system will be accepted in the final round of voting. Voting will conclude on February1,2020.
REGION ONE, Eastern Region: – REGION TIED; LYLE DEVORE, Albany-Saratoga (NY) Speedway: This is third nomination for Devore. He continues to manage the successful program at Albany-Saratoga while becoming one of the best track preparation managers in the nation.
JIMMY PHELPS, Weedsport (N.Y.) Speedway: Phelps as helped bring Weedsport back to regional and national prominence for track and car owner Al Heinke. This is a first time nomination for Phelps.
JUSTIN LOH / KATHY HUGHES, Williams Grove (Pa.) Speedway: Hughes is the speedway owner and Loh the general manager of one of the most historic and successful Sprint Car tracks in the world. This is a first-time nomination for this promotional duo.
REGION TWO, Southeastern Region: CHRIS MARTIN, Cochran Motor Speedway (Georgia): A first time nomination for the Georgia promoter. Martin will be presented with his first regional ARPY award.
REGION THREE, Central Region; REGION TIED: TAMMY & KEVIN GUNDAKER Tri- City Speedway: The Gundaker name is very recognized in the short track racing industry, as is their popular Tri-City Speedway. They are tied for Region Three.
ROGER SLACK, Eldora Speedway: A first time nomination, Slack is one of the many driving forces behind the success at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway.
REGION FOUR, Northern Region: REGION TIED: TOBY KRUSE / THE RATAJCZAK’S 141 Speedway (Wisconsin): The fourth nomination for Kruse a widely experienced race sanction official and promoter and a third for the the Ratajcak’s based off their efforts at 141.
SCOTT & RON WIMMER: State Park Speedway, (Wisconsin): This is a second time nomination for the Wimmer’s and their efforts at State Park Speedway. The Wimmer’s have been recognized in various forms of racing for many years.
REGION FIVE, Great Plains Region: RAY MARLER, I-55 Speedway (Missouri): This is the second nomination for Marler. Marler’s volume of experience extends through decades of the business along with his partnerships with some of the sports most recognizable names, including his long-time partnership with Ken Schrader at I-55.
REGION SIX, Southwest & Western Region: DENNIS GAGE, Silver Dollar Speedway (Californa): A first time nominee and regional winner, Gage has a vast knowledge of the industry from many different aspects. He has a steadfast approach that has found continued success at Chico, which hosts some of the most recognized events in the North America.
The recipient of the 44th Auto Racing Promoter of the Year Award, supported for the 30th year by Charlotte Motor Speedway, will be revealed during Monday ceremonies at the 47th Annual [email protected] Workshop at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort, Daytona Beach, FL, February 10 & 11, 2020.
