The World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing is finally upon us. Nine nights of racing at New Smyrna Speedway (FL) headlined by Super Late Models and Tour-type Modifieds is finally here. As always, the schedule is an eclectic mix of fendered cars and open-wheel cars, and it always makes for an exciting week and a half of racing.
Headlining the action will be the Super Late Models. The Supers will be in action for a total of seven nights, with just Sunday, February 11th and Friday, February 16th as off days. The biggest race of the week for the Super Late Models will come on Saturday, February 17th when the Super Late Models will go for 100 laps to decide the division champion.
Joining the Super Late Models on the bill for seven nights of action of their own will be the Pro Late Models. This division will be off for just two nights on Sunday, February 11th and Tuesday, February 13th. The Pro Late Models will see their longest race of the week be on Friday, February 16th when they go for 100 laps, but the division will crown their champion on Saturday the 17th.
The ground-pounding Tour-type Modifieds will be returning to New Smyrna Speedway for five nights of action beginning on Monday, February 12th. The Modifieds will have two extra-distance races throughout the week. The first extra-distance event will be on Valentine’s Day. The Modifieds will go 76 laps in the John Blewett III Memorial. Then on Friday, February 16th the Modifieds will crown a champion in the Richie Evans Memorial 100.
The only night of racing that will not see any Super Late Models, Pro Late Models or Tour-type Modifieds hit the track will be Sunday, February 11th. That night belongs to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East who will return once again to open their season. The stock cars of NASCAR’s premier driver development division will be joined by the Florida Modifieds.
The aforementioned Florida Modifieds will be another division to hit the track for seven nights of racing action. Their week will begin on opening night and end on Saturday, February 17th. The Florida Modifieds will have their longest race of the week, a 75-lap affair, take place on Tuesday, February 13th.
Sprint Cars will rumble around New Smyrna Speedway on Saturday, February 10th for 30 laps in what is always a thrilling event.
Also on the card at New Smyrna Speedway are the Sportsman division who will race four times. The Sportsman will be in action on the book-ending weekends.
