The New Year’s BASH Street Stock spectacular at Dillon Motor Speedway (SC) is now this Saturday and Sunday, January 5-6. Track officials have slid the original schedule of Friday and Saturday back one day due to a poor weather forecast for Friday.
The prestigious Street Stock event draws competitors from all over the country for a $2,500 winner’s payday. Dillon Motor Speedway has already received entries from drivers in Maine, Florida, Wisconsin, North Carolina and many places in-between.
The importance and stature of the event, along with the traveling distance for many of those teams, were primary factors in the postponement according to Dillon Motor Speedway owner Ron Barfield.
“We’ve looked at the weather forecast all week long,” Barfield told Speed51.com. “Friday has been saying 100-percent consistently. We have racers coming from all over the country to here to race at Dillon Motor Speedway. So, we’re making a decision to move it to Saturday and Sunday, so teams can prepare before they leave the house to come here to race. This way, they have time to change their logistics and hotel accommodations. Plus we wanted to give everybody ample practice time for an event of this magnitude.”
This year, for the first time ever, the 109-lap Street Stock race will be recorded for a national television broadcast on MAVTV. The tape-delayed broadcast will air February 13. In addition to the MAVTV broadcast, race fans will be able to watch a live video stream of the event as a Premium Member of he Speed51 Network by purchasing a monthly or yearly subscription.
Dillon Motor Speedway is expecting more than 100 cars for this event. While the Street Stock race will serve as the main event, other divisions will also come to Dillon and traditionally bring strong numbers. Joining the Street Stocks include the Carolina Mini-Stock Challenge, Challenger AR Series, UCAR/Pure Stocks and the V6 Bangers.
With the postponement there are also slight tweaks to the schedule. Most notably, qualifying remains on Saturday, joining practice on the first day of activity for the New Year’s BASH. Rotating practice will be held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, with qualifying for Street Stocks and the Challenger AR Series at 5pm.
On Sunday, January 6, the pit gates will open at 9 a.m., followed by practice at noon, qualifying at 1 p.m. for CMSC 4-Cylinders and UCAR/Pure Stocks and racing action getting underway at 2 p.m.
Grandstand tickets are $15, and kids 11-year-old and younger will enter the grandstands for free.
