Even though the holidays just passed and the calendar just turned to 2017, one of the biggest weeks of racing is just around the corner.  Florida Speedweeks isn’t too far away, and that means the 51st Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway (FL) is coming soon on February 16-25.

With that in mind, we wanted to take a look at the schedule for this year’s World Series, which is shaping up to be a huge week of racing.

300x250-smyrna-ws-2017The World Series will kick off on Friday, February 17 with the first night of feature racing at the fast half-mile oval just south of Daytona Beach.  The Super Late Models will headline the show and they will be joined by the Pro Late Models, Sportsman cars and Pro Trucks.  The Pro Trucks will race for 50 laps in their only appearance at New Smyrna during the World Series.

On February 18, the Sportsman will run for 50 laps in their second and final appearance of the week.  They will be joined by the Super Late Models and Pro Late Models.  In a new twist, the Pro Late Models will be running twin features.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will kick-start its 2017 campaign on Sunday, February 19 during the World Series in what has become a new tradition in recent years.  As usual, the stock cars of the K&N Pro Series East will be joined by one other division.

The other division running on February 19 will be the Southern Sprintcar Shootout Series.  For the first time in a few years, Sprint Cars will return to the high banks of New Smyrna Speedway.

On Monday, two divisions of ground-pounding Modifieds will make their 2017 World Series debut.  The Tour-type Modifieds will headline the action with a 50-lap feature.  They will be joined on the card by the IMCA/Florida Modifieds, Super and Pro Late Models.

Tuesday is all open-wheel Modified action at New Smyrna.  The IMCA/Florida Modifieds will headline the night with a 75-lap feature race.

One night later the Tour-type Modifieds will be the stars once again in the John Blewett III Memorial 76-lap feature.  The IMCA/Florida Modifieds, Super Late Models and Pro Late Models will all be on the racing card as well.

The penultimate night of racing at New Smyrna might be the biggest night of racing out of all nine days.  Two different divisions will race for 100 laps each.  The Tour-type Modifieds will conclude their residency at New Smyrna with the Richie Evans Memorial 100.  The Pro Late Models will also go for 100 laps.  The IMCA/Florida Modifieds will also be on the card.

The 51st Annual World Series will conclude on Saturday, February 25 with the running of the 100-lap Super Late Model feature.  The Pro Late Models and IMCA/Florida Modifieds will also be in competition on the final night of action.

In 2016, Ty Majeski (Super Late Models), Daniel Keene Jr. (Pro Late Models) Ryan Preece (Tour-type Modifieds) and Cody Stickler (IMCA/Florida Modifieds) scored the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing championships.

The 51st Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing begins on February 16 and goes until Saturday, February 25.  For more information, visit www.newsmyrnaspeedway.org.
