New Smyrna Track Champion Hunting for Points from Pole

Brad May is currently second in points for the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway (FL).  He will have a great chance to take the points lead on Sunday in the third night of racing during the series.

After a six-car invert, May, the defending New Smyrna Speedway track champion, will start on the pole for Sunday’s 35-lap feature, joined on the front row by opening night winner Sammy Smith.  May is four points behind leader Derek Griffith, while Smith is in third, six points behind Griffith.

Griffith missed out on the invert, qualifying ninth for Sunday’s race.  With the qualifying effort, Griffith will need to rally to maintain his points lead coming out of the first weekend of racing at the Florida half-mile.

Wisconsin’s Justin Mondeik set fast time, with a lap of 17.701 seconds.  Anthony Sergi was second-fastest, followed by Jesse Love.

Jamie Skinner set fast time in Pro Late Model qualifying.  He will start second after a two-car invert which placed Hunter Wright on the pole.
