New Smyrna Speedway Reverses Two Disqualifications

New Smyrna Speedway officials announced Wednesday that the two disqualifications in Saturday night’s Pro Late Model 50-lap race at the Florida Governor’s Cup have been reversed.

The No. 81 of Sammy Smith crossed the finish line in first place in the Pro Late Model race.  The car went thru tech and passed, but was later told that he was disqualified for not driving his car to the tech station. After a lengthy review, speedway officials discovered that Smith stopped at the cone entering the tech station and a crew member merely reached in the car for a water bottle.

Smith and the Anthony Campi Racing team are now declared the winners of Saturday night’s Pro Late Model race at New Smyrna Speedway.

The No. 51S of Hayden Sprague was also disqualified for not reporting to tech, but he was told by an official removing transponders that he could go to his pit.  Sprague will be awarded with the fifth-place finish in the Pro Late Model event.

New Smyrna Speedway officials take full responsibility for both of these disqualifications and apologize to both drivers and teams.
