After originally announcing a rescheduled date of April 3-5 for the 44th Annual Rattler Weekend, South Alabama Speedway has now announced the event will take place on April 17-19.
The track made the announcement in a Facebook post, promising more details in the near future. The event was originally scheduled for March 19-21, but was postponed amid concerns stemming from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
"We will have more information posted SOON," reads the post. "However due to the Governor's order the Rattler for April 3-5 has been rescheduled for April 17-19..... maybe - hopefully - the third date will be the charm!
"Thank you all for being so patient and understanding during all this!"
On Friday, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey decreed that all non-work-related gatherings of 25 persons or more were prohibited in the state. Many of the state's current restrictions in response to the COVID-19 outbreak are in effect until April 5, which complicated the original reschedule date for the Rattler Weekend.
While there was not real-life action at South Alabama Speedway this weekend, Speed51 hosted the eRattler 250 presented by PFC Brakes in its absence on Saturday night. The event featured a thrilling photo-finish, with Devon Morgan taking the win.
