There’s fast, then there’s NEMA fast.  Ever since it first opened its gates in 1969, Wiscasset Speedway has carried the title as “Maine’s Fastest Track”.   That will be showcased once again this Saturday night as the stars of the North Eastern Midget Association (NEMA) take to the high banked coastal speed plant. The lightning quick winged asphalt sprint cars will roll into Wiscasset for the first time since 1972 this Saturday night and officials anticipate track records to fall.

“Pro Stocks are our fastest weekly class,” said track announcer/promoter Ken Minott.  “They hustle around this 3/8 mile oval in just 15 seconds.  The fastest timed lap I’ve seen is 14.81 seconds.  These NEMA guys anticipate sub 13 second laps!  It’ll be an exciting night for sure and I know the drivers are looking forward to the challenge as well”.

NEMA Midgets are compact winged racecars with a very high power to weight ratio. With up to 400 horsepower and weighing approximately 1,000 pounds, Midgets are among the fastest cars on oval tracks ½ mile and under. For years Midget racing has played a significant role in the development of some of the nation’s finest and most successful drivers.

Both the NEMA Midgets and the NEMA Lites will be in action along with Wiscasset’s group 2 divisions; Late Model Sportsman, Strictly Streets, Thunder 4’s and Trucks.

Pit gates will open at 2:00pm, Grandstand gates at 4:00pm. There will be an on track NEMA drivers meet & greet for fans at 5:30pm and racing action begins at 6:00pm. Grandstand admission is just $5 with children 6 & under free. Pit side admission is $20. Wiscasset Speedway is located on the West Alna Road in Wiscasset. Details are available at
