Nashville, TN — With just two points races in the books for the 2021 season, there is already an exciting Championship Points battle in the making for Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway’s Pro Late Model division. So far this season, the race for a champion in 2021 suggests we may crown a repeat champion at the end of the year.
At the top of the standings after the first two events is 2018 Pro Late Model Champion, Michael House. After a disappointing 2020 season for House, he opened the new season with a win back on April 17th. House took the lead from Kody Swanson after lap 60 and cruised to his first win of the new year. Then, during the May 8th contest featuring the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour, House was on the cusp of another trip to the Winner Circle, but couldn’t find his way around Cody Coughlin late in the race – settling for a runner up finish.
Just 17 points behind House is two-time track champion, Cole Williams. A pair of top-five finishes to start the season have helped Williams stay toward the top of the board early. Williams opened the season with a fifth-place finish, driving a car he said had an engine laying down late in the race. Williams backed that performance up with a fourth-place finish with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour on May 8th.
Also within striking distance is defending champion Dylan Fetcho. Despite a DNF to start the season after the team had electrical problems on pit road, Fetcho is still in contention to battle for the Championship. Fetcho is 35 points back from House so far in the season and showed traditional speed during the May 8th race, finishing third.
Behind those three contenders is a tight points race within the top 10. Kyle Neveau sits fourth in his number 25 machine just 40 points off of House. Behind him, Dylan Jones (rookie) and Austin Wilson are tied for fifth at 43 points back; Garrett Dies (rookie) is seventh 45 points back, then Hunter Wright, Chase Johnson, Tandy Marlin, and Davey Coble are all tied for eighth position.
The next chance for drivers to make moves in the Track Championship Points standings will come on Saturday, May 29th during the next Local Racing program.
