With persistent showers through the afternoon and an unfavorable forecast for the night in Columbus Ohio, Champion Racing Association (CRA) and Columbus Motor Speedway officials were forced to postpone Saturday’s JEGS 125 ARCA/CRA Super Series event. A make-up date of Saturday, August 2 was immediately announced at the track.
After the day’s first shower delayed practice, ARCA/CRA Super Series teams were able to get track time Saturday at Columbus. Cody Coughlin, of nearby Delaware, Ohio, set fast time in the lone ARCA/CRA practice session at Columbus.
Hunter Baize, who won the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour race at Columbus earlier this season, was second-quick in practice. Baize was driving the same car and engine package that won the JEGS Tour race on May 24.
Brian Campbell, Wes Griffith, Jr. and Brandon Oakley completed the top five in practice. Twenty ARCA/CRA Super Series teams were in attendance for the JEGS 125.
Upon making the announcement of the postponement of the JEGS 125 to August 2, Columbus Motor Speedway promoter Jeff Nuckles also announced that the August 2 make-up event will feature some rebranding that will excite many short track fans in the Columbus area and beyond. Speed51.com will have more on that plan soon.
The ARCA/CRA Super Series will return to action on July 18 and 19 for the 2nd Annual Battle at Berlin 251 at Marne, Michigan’s Berlin Raceway.
