After Travis Eddy swept the first three Florida Modified features of the 2020 World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, the pressure on the rest of the field had reached a breaking point entering Tuesday’s 75-lap race. At the end of the night there was one driver that was able to challenge Eddy’s early dominance and succeed.
Timmy Moore assumed the lead of the race early on at New Smyrna Speedway after rolling off from the second starting spot. After starting fifth, Eddy soon got to second with the help of some yellow flags, but was unable to make a move on the tricky inside line, while Moore stayed up on the outside.
After 75 laps, Moore kept Eddy at arm’s length, celebrating a win that will go down as an all-time career highlight for the driver from St. Petersburg, Florida.
“I’ll tell you what, this is huge. This team I raced with them all last year, they gave me a chance to drive this car, they’re a heck of a group of guys, they never give up, and tonight it proved. I beat the best of the best, that’s huge for me. Hopefully we can get a couple more this week,” Moore told Speed51.
Despite having confidence in his No. 15 Modified, Moore was surprised just how well he fared against Eddy for so many laps.
“I figured once he got behind me, that he was going to be looking, but he was never there. I just kept digging and hitting my line and it paid off.”
For Eddy, he felt the main culprit of his troubles boiled down to track conditions.
“We had a good car, it was just so slippery everywhere from the rubber from the ARCA cars, and everything. It was just hard to pass, you could be faster than someone, but you couldn’t maneuver the car. You’d just loose the front-end right away when you tried to. Luckily we had that one caution that jumped us from fourth to second, if we had another caution and started on the inside, we might have had a chance of chasing him down,” said Eddy.
Augie Grill rounded out the podium while Wayne Parker and Jerry Symons were fourth and fifth.
