Montgomery Motor Speedway is making plans to contest a racing event on May 9, the Spring Explosion 100.
Many details are still being worked out by the track, but they have announced plans for an open practice on May 2 before hosting the event on May 9.
“Attention Racers, fans and all interested. Our plans are to hold an open practice on May 2nd and restart our season May 9th with the Spring Explosion 100,” reads a post on the track’s Facebook page. “We will be publishing guide lines for pits and grandstands. More info to follow.”
On Friday, the Alabama Small Business Commission revealed its phase one plan to reopen the state amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The plan will need to be approved by the state before it is put into action.
As part of that plan, entertainment venues, including race tracks, are recommended to reopen at 35 percent capacity. The commission also recommends such venues take employees’ temperatures before they enter, sanitize and practice social distancing.
Citing this plan, South Alabama Speedway also announced a new date for the Rattler Weekend on Friday. That event is now scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend.
Stay tuned to Speed51 for continued updates on both of these events, as well as any other scheduling updates as they pertain to the COVID-19 pandemic.
