Monday’s Modified Top Two Stay on Top in Tuesday Qualifying

The two drivers who battled for the win in the first night of Tour-type Modified qualifying at New Smyrna Speedway (FL) were the two fastest in qualifying on Tuesday night. Matt Hirschman set fast time in the session, with Monday winner Anthony Nocella setting the second-fastest time of qualifying.

Hirschman circled the half-mile oval in 17.204 seconds, while Nocella clocked in at 17.275 seconds. Amazingly enough, that 0.071-second difference was more than what separated the two drivers on Monday night, when Nocella beat Hirschman to the line by 0.034 seconds in a side-by-side finish.

After a two-car invert, Nocella will start on the pole, with Hirschman alongside him on the front row.

Craig Lutz was third-fastest in the time trial session, with Patrick Emerling and Ryan Preece rounding out the top five.  The top five in qualifying all finished in the top five in Monday’s 35-lap Tour-type Modified feature.

Speed51 will have Trackside Now coverage, presented by StopTech, throughout Tuesday night’s racing program at New Smyrna.
