The anticipation surrounding the rebirth of Gresham Motorsports Park (GA) continues to build leading up to the scheduled event on May 16-17. On Thursday, event officials announced that the popular Modifieds of Mayhem Tour will be joining CARS Tour and Southern Super Series Super Late Models on the schedule.
To coincide with Speed51’s involvement in promoting the event, the Modifieds will compete in a 51-lap race on Sunday, May 17. The race will pay a standard Modifieds of Mayhem purse of $1,500 to win and $200 to start; however, an incentive has been created for more drivers to compete in the race. If more than 15 cars start the race, the winner’s share of the purse will increase to $2,000.
The event will be a one-day show with practice, qualifying and the feature race all taking place on Sunday. There will be an optional practice session for all teams to test ‘n tune their cars on Saturday, May 16.
Stan Narrison, the promoter of the Modifieds of Mayhem Tour and Montgomery Motor Speedway, is thrilled to have his tour involved with the reopening of a race track this spring.
“I can’t even express to you how excited I am to have the Mayhem Tour involved with the reopening of that track,” Narrison said. ” I own a house that’s 30 minutes from there, and I’d like to see stock car racing and Modified racing flourish in that area again. I think this will be the first step to bringing some great racing back to that speedway.”
The Modifieds of Mayhem Tour, which will begin its sixth season in 2020, has become increasingly popular amongst racers and fans in the Southeast during recent years. Over the course of the 44 previously contested races, 83 drivers have competed on the Mayhem Tour, including standout Late Model racers such as Augie Grill, Casey Roderick and Jesse Dutilly.
Zach Knowles is the two-time defending Modifieds of Mayhem Tour champion, while Grill has won 10 races over the last three seasons.
With the addition of Gresham Motorsports Park to the 2020 Modifieds of Mayhem schedule, an additional schedule change has been made to event previously scheduled for May 22 at Five Flags Speedway. In a cooperative effort between all parties involved, that event has now been moved to Friday, March 27.
A full revised schedule for the 2020 Modifieds of Mayhem Tour will be released next week on Speed51.
