(Mooresville, N.C.) Coming off of his very first win in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards at Chicagoland one week ago, Mason Mitchell looked to become the second driver to win back-to-back races in 2014 at Lucas Oil Raceway (LOR). Mitchell and Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM) looked to be well on their way to achieving that feat until lap 149 when the rear gear let go forcing Mitchell behind the wall. He would complete two more laps and finish the event in 20th position.

“We had an amazing car this weekend, unfortunately luck wasn’t on our side. All of the guys on the MMM team did a great job when we went behind the wall. I hate it for all of the guys who work long nights on these cars. I’m excited to bring a new car to Pocono and I believe we can get back on track and get win No. two this weekend.”

Friday afternoon in Menards qualifying presented by Ansell, Mitchell turned a lap of 22.299 or 110.749 MPH good enough to start in the second position for the Scott Get Geared Up 200.

When the green flag waved, Mitchell quickly took the lead from Brandon Jones building a lead of 1.2 seconds. Mitchell continued to lead until the caution waved at lap 52 for an incident involving JJ Haley. Crew chief Matt Weber elected to bring Mitchell down pit-road under the caution for a routine pit-stop sending Mitchell back to the track in the eighth positon for the lap 61 restart.

Mitchell quickly worked his way back up to the fourth position at lap 70 running lap times quicker than the leader. 20 laps later Mitchell moved around Grant Enfinger to move into the second position.

Mitchell reclaimed the top spot on a restart on lap 109 and led until lap 117 when Just Boston passed Mitchell on newer tires. Mitchell settled into the third position until lap 149 when disaster struck the No. 98 team. A burnt rear gear forced the No. 98 car behind the wall resulting in a 20th place finish their first finish outside of the top-ten in 2014.

With the 20th place finish Mitchell’s streak of 20 straight races with a top-ten finish ended. Mitchell led two times for 63 laps. Mitchell now sits second in points 40 markers behind Grant Enfinger heading into Friday’s race the ModSpace 125 at Pocono Raceway.

Arcaracing.com will feature live timing and scoring for all on-track activity from Pocono Raceway. The race will be live on Fox Sports 1 Friday, August 1st at 5:15 p.m. ET.
