LAKE VIEW, SC — Pine Level, NC’s Dustin Mitchell parlayed a bold three-wide move to take the lead into the FUEL/I-95 Challenge Series Late Model win Saturday night at Lake View Motor Speedway. It was Mitchell’s fourth win of the year at Lake View, but first this Summer.
Beaverdam, VA’s Russell Erwin got the advantage over Mitchell at the start to take the initial lead. Behind them, Willie Milliken lived up to his “Wild Child” moniker making a three-wide move entering turn one to go from fifth to third. The first caution of the night waved on lap four win Dustin Perritt spun exiting turn four. After a run of cautions for simple spins, Erwin led the field to a restart on lap six. Milliken would make a run down to the inside in an attempt to take the lead, but Mitchell would go even lower. As they raced three-wide out of turn two, Mitchell went to the lead followed by Erwin and Milliken. Milliken eventually retired from the race due to fuel pump problems. At the checkers, Mitchell would race to the victory over Banjo Duke, Milliken, Michael Rouse, and Michael Batten. Rounding out the top 10 were Cameron Norris, IV, Shaun Harrell, Timmy Blackwell, Dustin Perritt, and Blake Sanderson.
Cameron Norris, IV remained undefeated at Lake View winning his fifth straight Carolina Outlaw Super Series win of the year. David Royal and John Proctor were running in the top ten until contact in turn three on lap 5 sent the two spinning. Following Norris at the finish were Ron Pope, Michael Freeman, Benji Thompson, and Scott Patterson.
Josh Fields got the advantage over polesitter AJ Belanger, leading every lap for his first 602 Open Wheel Modifieds win of the season. Rounding out the top five were defending track champion, Case Daniels, Belanger, Jonathan Ward, and Ethan Wilson.
Veteran Everette Dunlap made the trip down from Concord, NC a successful one, starting from the pole and leading every lap for the Crate Racin’ USA Street Stock win. Several contenders, including Mike Manes, Michael Butler, and Rocky Gasque, were caught up in an incident when the second place car of Darryl Moran slowed exiting turn two. Finishing behind Dunlap were Joey Wilkes, Jordan Lewis, Donald Williams, and Butler.
Derek Kemper got the lead at the drop of the green flag and dominated to win another Morrisonbuilt Performance SCDRA Sport Compact race. Rounding out the top five were Trent Herring, Troy Hill, Collin Brown, and Jason Brown.
James Smith rebounded from a spin to win his first Stock V-8 race of the year. Smith grabbed the lead from the pole, but spun by himself in turn two with six laps to go. Mark Compton inherited the lead but spun after contact with Jaden Locklear with three laps to go. Smith bypassed Christopher Smith following the restart, leading the rest of the way to win over Compton, Daniel Wallace, Jake Legett, and Locklear.
