Since eBay was founded in 1995, quite a few interesting (or just plain weird) items have been auctioned off. One man once auctioned off the right to pick a new middle name for him. Now recently, a race track has appeared on eBay. No, not one of the slot car tracks that are so commonly sold on eBay, but an actual 3/8-mile dirt track in Missouri.
The Montgomery Motorsports Park in New Florence, Missouri is currently listed on eBay with a starting price of $455,000. Current owner Randy Matlock said eBay is one of just a few ways he’s gone about trying to sell his race track.
“It’s only one of several routes that we’ve gone,” Matlock told Speed51.com powered by JEGS. “That’s not the only place it’s listed. That’s just another avenue that we thought we’d experiment with. But we’ve gotten more responses off of that particular post than the other avenues we’ve used to try to sell the race track.”
The track ran UMP Modifieds, UMP Late Models, UMP B-Mods, and UMP Street Stocks. According to STLRacing.com, Michael Vandereit Jr. was the last UMP Late Model winner at the facility on April 19, 2014.
Matlock said he bought the race track in 2012. The track ran until May of 2014 and has been closed since, according to its Facebook page.
“I remodeled it really with the intentions of keeping it a race track and bringing someone in to promote it and be the hands-on guy,” said Matlock. “I really haven’t been able to find that guy and I’m not in a position to do that myself, so the next logical thing would be to sell it.”
With the current Powerball jackpot at $675 million, if you’ve ever thought about owning a race track now could be the perfect time. All you need is a dollar and a dream. Or $455,000 and a dream.
