Miss Snowball Derby Through the Years

While the Snowball Derby is entering its 53rd year, the Miss Snowball Derby Pageant is one of the newer aspects of the Derby tradition.  Still, the pageant has grown in prestige since its inception in 2014, becoming an integral part of the experience leading up to the biggest Late Model race in the country.

The inaugural Miss Snowball Derby Pageant took place in 2014 at Beef O’Brady’s in downtown Pensacola, with Arah Hans-Majors crowned as the first Miss Snowball Derby.  The following year, Cameron Davis was crowned Miss Snowball Derby.

2016 marked the first worldwide online broadcast of the Miss Snowball Derby Pageant, courtesy of Speed51. That year, Raven Hammac received the crown.  Coming from a racing family, Hammac had grown up around the Snowball Derby and Five Flags Speedway.

2017 marked the first year of the Miss Snowball Derby pageant at its current location, Seville Quarters.  20 ladies competed in that year’s pageant, a record number which held until this year’s field of 21 entries.  Mississippi’s Emmalee Hodge was crowned Miss Snowball Derby in 2017, the first winner from outside the Sunshine State.

In 2018, Helena Ciappina won the fifth Miss Snowball Derby Pageant ahead of the 51st Snowball Derby.  Last year, Ciappina passed the torch to Cantonment, Florida’s Bristal Aaron, who will be on hand Thursday to crown the next Miss Snowball Derby.

The 2020 Miss Snowball Derby Pageant, featuring 21 entrants, will take place Thursday, November 19 at Seville Quarters.  Along with being named 2020 Miss Snowball Derby, the winner will receive $1,000 from Fast Cash ATM Services and a David Yurman necklace from Jewelers Trade Shop of Pensacola.

Second place in the pageant will receive $300, with third-place earning $200.  The pageant will also crown a Miss Congeniality, who will receive a pearl necklace form Bere Jewelers.

Miss Snowball Derby’s responsibilities include representing Five Flags Speedway at as many Snowball Derby functions as possible, as well as being present for all victory lane photos, pre-race ceremonies and fan activities throughout the 53rd Annual Snowball Derby. Winning contestants will reign for the term of one year by making personal appearances, together and as a group, representing Five Flags Speedway.

Once again, the Snowball Derby Pageant will be streamed live for free on Speed51.TV.
