Midwest Tour, Weekly Late Models Set for Jefferson

Jefferson, WI — The Super Late Model ‘Stars and Cars’ of the ARCA Midwest Tour are set to battle for 100 laps at Jefferson Speedway this Saturday Night May 25 during the Salute the Troops 100. Also on the card at ‘Wisconsin’s Action Track’ is the first ever Showdown Match Races and Throwdown Feature for the Weekly Late Models as well as the popular Road Warrior Division. Racing action is slated to start at 7pm Saturday at the quarter mile paved oval located between Jefferson and Cambridge, WI.

Pauly Shafer will lead the charge of Midwest Tour Stars in Jefferson. Shafer, the 2013 Illiana Motor Speedway (IN) Super Late Model Champion recorded his first and only career Tour win in last year’s Salute the Troops 100. The young Indiana chauffer just graduated from Valparaiso University last weekend. Another driver to watch is Andrew Morrissey. Morrissey was a two-time winner on Tour in 2018, the 2011 Tour Champion collected hardware at State Park Speedway and following Oktoberfest at LaCrosse.

Hot off his win the Icebreaker 100 at Dells Raceway Park, Casey Johnson returns home on Saturday night. The 3-time Jefferson Speedway Late Model Champion and 4-time Wisconsin State Champion finished second on opening night earlier this month. The Edgerton native has clicked off three consecutive Wisconsin State Championships at his home-track. Johnson also captured the 2018 Fox River Racing Club Championship at Wisconsin International in his Dennis Chase owned #47, the same car he will pilot Saturday night. Not to be overlooked, Dale Nottestad, one of the fiercest weekly competitors in the state will return to the Super Late Model ranks. Nottestad is the five-time and defending Jefferson Speedway Late Model Champion, he is also a three-time titlist at Madison, where he garnered the 2004 Super Late Model title.

Carson Kvapil, who along with Shafer are part of the Alan Kulwicki Driver Development Program, recorded the win last August at Golden Sands, winning in his first Tour start. The 16 year old who calls Mooresville, NC home, is the son of former NASCAR Truck Champion Travis Kvapil. The second generation driver is now in search of Rookie of the Year honors and wore his Midwest Tour T-Shirt to his first day of school last fall. Austion Nason had a stellar season in 2018, not only recording his first tour triumph in the Joe Shear Classic but also laying claim to the Madison International Speedway Super Late Model Triple Crown Title and adding the Kar Korner All-Star 100 at Rockford Speedway to his resume. Nason has countless laps at Jefferson from his Big 8 Series and Sportsman racing days.

Rich Bickle, Jr has been on a roll, with finishes of third at the Dells Icebreaker and a runner-up effort three weeks ago during the Joe Shear Classic at Madison. The former NASCAR standout has new found speed to go along with his winner’s determination behind the wheel of his familiar #45. Bickle was the high bidder on a door off of Dick Trickle’s 67-win Ford Mustang last weekend at the Dick Trickle Memorial statue unveiling.

2018 Wisconsin Challenge Series Champ Ryan Farrell, TUNDRA Runner-Up John Beale, former Big 8 winner and Mid-American Series Champion Rick Corso, Central Wisconsin standout Justin Mondiek, 2018 Tour Rookie of the Year Billy Mohn, World Series of Asphalt (FL) Runner-Up Gabe Sommers, two-time Grundy County Speedway Champion Ricky Baker and John DeAngelis, Jr whom led the most laps at the Joe Shear Classic are all expected entries for Saturday night’s Salute the Troops 100.

Weekly Late Models will join in the action on Saturday as the first ever Showdown Match Races and Weekly Late Model Throwdown join a full card of racing which also includes the Road Warriors at ‘Wisconsin’s Action Track’. The series of Match races for weekly Late Model from across the state will place man and machine head to head for five laps with the winner of each round moving onto the finale. Additionally, those same cars will be placed into a 30 lap Throwdown Feature event. Over ten Late Model teams have thrown their hat into the ring thus far, a complete list of Showdown/Throwdown drivers will be released later this week.
