Elko, Minnesota — Florida-based teenage racer Michael Lira battled his way to a 14th-place finish in the Akona 250 in the ARCA Racing Series Presented By Menards at Elko Speedway in Minnesota Saturday night. Lira’s No. 69 Gary Yeomans Ford Fusion suffered a loose spark plug wire early in the event causing the car to run with reduced power.
“It’s disappointing to have such a minor issue put us behind so early in the race,” Lira said. “But the guys did a great job of getting to the problem and getting us back into the race to put up a decent finish.”
Lira started 13th in his 5th start of the 2014 season with Kimmel Racing. He has two top-10 finishes so far this year.
“This was another first time track for me and I really enjoyed it,” said Lira. “This is the shortest track we will run this year and it was really a lot of fun.”
Grant Enfinger dominated the 23-car field throughout the 250-lap race that featured NASCAR legend Ken Schrader and the stars of the Midwest based ARCA stock car racing series.
The ARCA series will return to action July 6, 2014 at Winchester Speedway with the Herr's Chase The Taste 200 presented by Federated Car Care. The 1/2 mile speedway in Indiana boasts it is the world’s fastest 1/2 mile paved oval.
